"The Balmerino"

Arthur Elphinstone, 6th Lord Balmerino, (1688 - 18th August 1746), was a Scottish nobleman and an officer in the Jacobite army. He went to his execution unrepentant reading out a treasonable speech and adding "If I had a thousand lives, I would lay them all down in the same cause".  

The handle is hand carved in Walnut to give the same colour and look as Balmerino's dirk, the mounts are made from brass. Plain topped pommel with a square tang nut securing the blade to the grip. The blade is made from carbon steel and is double edged.

Price £500 with brass mounts as in picture. In silver the price is £900.

 

"The Clansman - variation"

Brass mounted dirk with plain turned handle (Wendge wood) in 17th & 18th century style.

Double edged blade made from highe carbon steel

Price with plain leather scabbard is only £125. Also available in Hall marked silver for £195.

"The Marr"

Beautifull reproduction brass mounted dirk of the 18th century. Double edged blade with 5 blood grooves made from high carbon steel. The tang is secured by a large square tang nut with filled decoration. The pommel cap has 4 pierced hearts with red material showing through. 

Carved wallnut wood handle with 2 broad celtic interwoven bands carved around the middle portion of the grip and triangular celtic carving. Length of dirk out of scabbard is 470mm, the blade being 350mm. The scabbard is made from heavy black leather and finished with contemporary brass mounts.

The price £500.

"The Bonnie Dundee"

Beautifull reproduction brass mounted dirk of the 18th century. Single edged blade with large blood groove made from high carbon steel. The tang is secured by a large square tang nut with filled decoration. The pommel cap has 4 pierced hearts and 4 circle decorations to finish (red material showing through pierced hearts).

Fully carved wallnut wood handle with 3 celtic interwoven bands carved around the middle portion of the grip. Length of dirk out of scabbard is 470mm, the blade being 355mm. The scabbard is made from heavy black leather and finished with contemporary brass mounts.

Clansman's Dirk

The Clansmans dirk is based on a dirk that was on exhibition at Culloden Visitor Centre (1999-2003). Made with plain high carbon steel blade set in hand turned wooden handle with brass mounts. On the left mulberry wood and on the right wenge wood. These dirks come with a leather scabbard reproduced in 17th & 18th century style. price is £125 in silver £195..

"The Murray"

Brass mounted dirk fashioned on an 18th century pattern. The handle is made from rosewood with a celtic interlace band and has a heart and losenge shape nailed into the handle. These two symbols are commonly found on 17th & 18th century Scottish sword basket hilts and the pommel caps of dirks. The blade is slightly pitted to give that 18th century look and feel. Again the blade's tang runs all the way through the mounts and handle, secured with a cross steel tang nut. The overall length of the dirk is 445mm.

Price for this dirk is £400. In silver it's £800.

"The Lochiel"

Hand made Highland dirk and knife with Edinburgh hallmarked silver mounts. The hand-carved handles are made from hard rosewood, chocolate brown in colour to give a 17th & 18th century look and feel. No dye has been used on these handles. The blade is double edged to look and feel like it was cut down from a broken sword blade and has a full tange with a steel cross tang nut securing it to the mounts and handle.

It is stamped with "AN + DR + IA" and the running woolf of Solingen on one side; and "FE + RA + RA" and the running woolf on the other. The blade also has two blood grooves running down each side, and has also been slightly pitted to give an 18th century look.

The scabbard is made from the finest dearskin; the pommel cap has four concentric rings stamped in with four pierced hearts of the early 18th century style. Red material is noticible through the pierced hearts on the pommel cap. Total length of the dirk in scabbard is 455mm (just over 18")

Bladeless Antique Boy's Dirk (260mm)

Beautifull antique small boy's dirk with no blade, total length is 260mm. The dirk, knife & fork handles are all made from boxwood dyed black, and finely carved with basket weave. Boxwood was a common material used during the 17th & 18th century on dirk and knife handles. The mounts are nickel silver that have been silver plated and engraved with shield motifs. The scabard is made from wood covered with fine black leather, all in place. The stones appear to be original. The small fork handle is a recent replacement along with the stone mount.

The Victorian period helped revive the old splendour of Highland dress. Victorian aristocracy would dress their children as eloquently as themselves. These collectable pieces are becoming highly sought after and are becoming rather scare.

Genuine Victorian bladeless ornamental boy's dirk. Details of the construction and materials are the same as those detailed for the 260mm dirk above. However being an antique the dirk is slightly loose, but still perfectly secure.
